It finally feels like spring today!  Warm and sunny outside till late evening, almost made me want to wear summer clothes!  But I was quickly reminded to proceed with caution: I fell hard on my a*% on the sidewalk over the weekend when the snow just started to melt!  Yes, blue and purple on my legs, elbow, shoulder, etc...not so sexy when you look like a battered housewife.

After watching the "Cupcake Wars" on the Food Network, a sudden urge of cupcakes (it's actully the case with most shows I watch on the Food Network) !!  And my favorite cupcake boutique in Montreal is Petits Gâteaux.  I use to buy them by the dozen before visiting my hubby at the resto and share them with all the staff.  Choco & Truffle, Coffee and plain Vanilla were usually ordered in double so we don't have to fight over who gets what.

While not a big fan of white chocolate, I noticed how pretty their Sour cream, Rasberry & White Chocolate flavor looks.  Almost like cherry blossom!  

Btw, with the recent disaster in Japan, I had to cancel my trip.  Although somewhat disapointed, I am reminded of how lucky I am being in good health, having such a wonderful family and carrying friends, and how my daily obsessions seem irrelevant and shallow...sorry, didn't mean to turn this post into a personal enlightenment of any sort (nor am I wise enough to dedicate an entire post on this subject), just sharing what's going through my mind. 

Now, let me go out and get my dozen of cupcakes!!

Now that you all know how I believe shoes are the best invention of mankind, it shouldn't come to a surprise that I take them very seriously.  And I know what I like: 4"+ heel pumps or ballerina flats, over-the-knee flat boots or wedge ankle boots, colourful strappy sandals or converse runners.  The kitten heels or in between styles are not really my thing. 

With the new trend of "Flatform" (flat-platform), I'm really on the fence...can they actually be flattering?  They really remind me of the platforms worn by the Spice Girls circa 1999.  Maybe the Prada brogues could make themselves to my closet with open arms, but I wouldn't feel the urge to buy more even on sale.  What about you?  Are you in love with the new flatforms?

Don't be fooled by the snow storm here in Montreal!  We are known to have bi-polar weather: winter one day then summer the next.  Transitional seasons, like spring or fall, are usually only 2 weeks long or sometimes non-existant. 

That's why I need to prepare my summer essentials now...starting with a fresh pair of cat-eye sunnies.  I have been lusting over these Karen Walker Limited Edition Sunglasses Number One in Black Vintage for a while now.  Of course they are not available in Canada and of course they are sold out online!  My second choice would be a tie between the blue/green plastic frame (right ones from the 1st image) or the brown tortoise frame (left ones from the 2nd image), both from her spring 2011 collection.

If you live in the north eastern region, you were most likely outside shoveling, plowing or at least fronting the snow storm this morning.  Luckily, I had nowhere to go (wow...how sad does this sound...) and didn't have to leave the house until late afternoon when I realized we had no more milk left for my latte.

I came accross one of the most amusing how to article yesterday by French illustrator and streetstyle blogger Garance Dore entitled "How to...Be Assaulted by a Horde of StreetStyle Photographers".  It is virtually a cheatsheet of what to wear and what to do if you want to be photographed and featured as a style icon / style inspiration. 

Based on her tutorial, there's 3 main tips:

1. OUTFIT: Other than wearing key trend pieces of next season, the weirder your look (in a good way), the more likely you'll be photographed.
2. ATTITUDE: Act like you're somebody important going to somewhere important with other very important people...even if you're none of the above.
3. IN THE EVENT IF ALL FAILS: Bring an entourage of "fake" streetstyle photographers to attract the real ones or better yet, find an industry favorite fashion editor and attempt getting in the picture while she is getting photographed!

So once I can work out an editor-envy waredrobe and the confidence to stand tall next to Anna Dello Russo, I might just run around NYC or Paris during fashion weeks hoping to be featured on the Sartorialist or Jak & Jil.

GIRL CRUSH - Taylor Tomasi Hill

Taylor Tomasi Hill, style director at Marie-Claire, knows how to use colour.  In a sea of "wearing nothing but black" editors and fashion insiders, she really stands out in the crowd.  And given the she's a redhead, it's not the easiest thing to pull off!  I am simply addicted to all her pictures during the fashion week...and the red hair of course!

Although I'm all excited about leather, fur and cashmere at the peak of Fall/Winter 2011 fashion weeks, I'm secretly daydreaming about my toes in the sand and a drink in my hand.  Hainan islands, we shall meet in a month!
