OUTFIT DU JOUR - Time is like breasts

I was hanging out at our studio with the girls the other day and we had a "ah-ha" moment!  It all started with Christal, a dear friend, who offered to draw a painting for our space.

Well, I had two concerns:

1) The size of canvas (preferably big enough to cover one of our wall).

2) The time frame (preferably within the next two weeks).

So my partner Taylor asked: "Do you even have time to do a painting on top of everything else?"  "Time is like breasts; if you squeeze hard enough, you'll have time!!!", replied Christel casually.

Needless to say, all four of us laughed so hard that we were rolling on the floor!  Honestly, this is now the best analogy ever!!!

Kitten Eyes

I am full aware that I don't ooze the kind of sex appeal as the Angelia Jolie or the Beyonce Knowles of this world...I don't even bother trying!  And that's also why the full-on cat eye makeup don't suit my small asian eyes.  With small features, the kitten eye makeup is a softer and more flattering version that will not overwhelm my face.

Here's what we need:

* Black pencil eyeliner – Ensure that it is sharp.
* Black liquid or gel eyeliner - Gel is easier if you don't have a steady hand.
* Ultra-thin eyeliner brush.

* Eyeshadow brush.
* Dark eye shadow. I prefer irridescent rather than matt (too hard), or shiny (too messy).
* Highlighter for under the eyebrow.
* Eyelash curler.
* Black mascara - Blackest black if possible!

And here how the kitten eye is done:

1. Using your black eyeliner pencil, begin from the front corner of your eyelid. Draw a soft smudge line to the end of your lash line.
2. Use your eyeshadow brush to apply the dark eye shadow over the top of the smudged line for a soft smoky look. Ensure that the edges are neatly blended.
3. Then take the ultra-thin eyeliner brush with gel or liquid eyeliner and apply as close to your lashes as you can on the top lid only. Don't make the line too thick and winged out slightly without passing the end of your lid crease.
4. Apply another smoky coat of eye shadow with the brush to blend the harsh edges.  Then apply a shimmery highlight in white or cream under the outside corner of your eyebrow.
5. Curl your eyelashes, then apply three coats of mascara, building the layers up gradually to avoid clumping.

And voila!  That's how we do the flirty kitten eyes!

OUTFIT DU JOUR - Waiting for the next move

We just received our new custom made lounge chair today for our studio...and I LOVE IT!!!

I arrived in Shanghai on wednesday afternoon.  Things have been moving so fast that I didn't realize it's already the weekend!  Not that I work from monday to friday schedule or anything but other than a 3pm meeting later, I've decided to pretty much do nothing all day!  Ok, maybe I'll go out for a massage...in PJs nonetheless! Hey, we're in China...I can go anywhere in PJs!

ps.  On the PJ note, it's all over the runways since last season so IT IS fashionable to leave the house in my silk asian print blouse and pant combo.

Addiction

I have a confession: I'm addicted to coffee.  Like most people, I'm non-functional without my latte in the morning.  If fact, it's the first thing I do when I wake up.  I like the dark roast.  I like the creamy foam.  I like the bowl cup!

So I was pleasantly surprise when we got a Nespresso machine for our Shanghai studio!  No need to do Starbucks runs anymore...just insert, press and wait for my morning addiction of caffeine.

Oh yeah...almost forgot to mention that I'm in Shanghai again!

Care Free

(Free People Fall 2011 Ad)

Julie Stegner (one of the most beautiful models in my opinion) for Free People Fall 2011 ad campaign.  With Julie's tousled blond hair and relaxed attitude, every outfit seems so care free yet perfectly put together.  Makes me re-consider Free People, a line I have never previously paid much attention to.

It would be nice...

...to wake up to a beautiful bouquet everyday...or at least every week.  It's funny how something as simple as this can lift up your mood and spirit!  This one was given to me by my dear friend who is now taking flower arrangement classes.

I love the vibrant colours of this arrangement.  And I love that she thought of me while putting it together...not bad for her 4th class, isn't it?  Sometimes we have hidden talents just waiting to be discovered!  Perhaps a career to pursue?  I wonder if florists make enough to purse my shoe addiction...

In the meantime, I'll just enjoy my bouquet thank you very much!

OUTFIT DU JOUR - Tell me what I want to hear

Like I said, the weather this weekend is exceptionally warm and I decided to wear my summer clothes one last time.  You can say I'm in denial, delusional or even just making up some excuse to show leg...I don't care!  Or you can just say that the colour coral suits me very well (something I may prefer to hear) and leave it at that.

To tell you the truth, I'm actually the kind of person that usually prefer to hear or say whatever's on the mind.  In fact, I wasn't even good at taking compliments!  But with age (hence wisdom), I learnt that sometime, the sugar coated truth is much easier to digest (for me as well as for others).

So tell me what I want to hear or don't say anything at all!

OBSESSION DU JOUR - Arm Cuff

(Pamela Love Pentagram Cuff)

(YSL Cage Cuff)

(Aurelie Bidermann Lace Cuff)

(ASOS Wired Cuff)

(Zacharie Cuff)

I know it's already fall, but this weekend still feels like summer again (is this what they call Indian Summer?).  With the weather slightly warmer, I find myself lusting over these beautiful gold arm cuff, a hybrid between the Wonder Woman cuff and the Roman Warrior cuff.  And being petite, I bet they literally cover my whole arm (or at least 2/3 of my forearm).

My favourite is obviously the Pamela Love one with its architectural shape, seems like something coming out from a comic book (and maybe will really give me some Wonder Woman power)!  From my more feminine side, I also love the Aurelie Bidermann's lace detail.  And purely from a budget perspective, the ASOS is also a good contender.

BACKSTAGE BEAUTY - Alexander McQueen

(Alexander McQueen Spring 2012)

Clearly, I couldn't get enough of McQueen.  Here are some pictures of backstage beauty and preparation for this spectacular show!  Look at all the handwork involved...if only I can witness it all in person...
